That's right: Pokémon Leagues exist, and they're closer to home than you might think!
Bathurst Clark and Vellore Village libraries each host leagues of their own, and all it takes to enter is a passion for Pokémon and the determination to catch them all!
Not sure what a Pokémon League is? Don't worry — we're here to fill you in!
A Pokémon League is a club where players can gather and enjoy activities related to their favourite game. It doesn't matter whether you prefer the card trading games or the video games — everyone is welcome to join in on the fun!
With international gatherings and members from every corner of the world, Pokémon Leagues have evolved (heh) into a popular and nearly universal way for players to connect. They're usually found at comic stores or gaming shops, and participation requires you buying a deck of cards or a video game.
Vaughan Public Libraries does things a little differently, though. While you're more than welcome to bring your own cards, they'll have a supply ready for you. Since this event is designed to cater to players of all ages and abilities, beginners and experts alike are invited to participate. It's the perfect opportunity to get some practice in, whether you're learning to play or testing your mettle! There will also be trading opportunities and a scavenger hunt, where you'll be charged with finding Pokémon hidden throughout the library. The lucky winners will be going home with another card to add to their collection!
You won't need to be registered with Vaughan Public Libraries to sign up, but patrons will receive the additional perk of earning another Pokémon card by checking out a book. Who ever guessed that Pokémon cards and library cards would one day go hand in hand?!
For the youngest Pokémon enthusiasts, colouring pages will also be available. Customize pikachu however you'd like, whether that means drawing him a pair of funky shades or giving him stripes like incineroar!
The League also has a few surprises up its sleeve. Last Thursday at Vellore Village, it was particularly exciting — a librarian brought in a Nintendo Switch with Pokkén Tournament, and everyone had a chance to play!
At Pokémon League meetings, you never know what's going to happen — and the best way to find out is to experience it yourself!
